The landscape of Nepali women’s cricket is changing rapidly, and our players are setting new records on the international stage. Recently, three remarkable athletes have included their names in the elite list of players who have scored 1000 T20I Runs. The three cricketers who have achieved this historic milestone are Indu Barma, Rubina Chhetry, and Sita Rana Magar.
This achievement is a moment of great pride for Nepal. It shows that our women cricketers are consistent and capable of competing at a high level. Reaching the mark of 1000 T20I Runs requires years of dedication, hard work, and passion for the game.
Historic Achievement by the Captain
Indu Barma, the captain of the Nepali National Women’s Cricket Team, was the first to break this barrier. She became the first Nepali woman to reach 1000 T20I Runs in this format. This special moment happened four months ago during a T20 International series against Malaysia.
Currently, Indu is the highest run-scorer in Nepali women’s T20 International cricket. She has scored a total of 1,075 runs. Having participated in 81 matches, her highest score in this format is 55 runs. Her leadership and batting have inspired many young girls in Nepal.
Two Legends Join the Elite Club
While Indu led the way, former captain Rubina Chhetry and experienced player Sita Rana Magar achieved this feat during the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier. Rubina completed her 1000 T20I Runs during the match against the Netherlands. Shortly after, in the match against Zimbabwe, Sita Rana Magar also crossed this significant landmark.
Looking at the statistics:
Rubina Chhetry: She has played 82 matches. In 72 innings, she has scored a total of 1,007 runs.
Sita Rana Magar: She has played 66 matches. She managed to score 1,003 runs in just 62 innings. Interestingly, Sita became the fastest Nepali player to reach 1000 T20I Runs in terms of innings played.
The Next Generation is Rising
The future of Nepali cricket looks bright with young talents stepping up. Puja Mahato has shown that she is ready to follow in the footsteps of her seniors. During the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, she played a crucial role in a historic win.
Puja played a brilliant not-out inning of 52 runs against Zimbabwe, leading Nepal to a victory against a Test-playing nation. She has already scored 611 runs in just 38 innings. With this performance, she also became the first Nepali player to score a half-century against a Test-playing nation. Having crossed the 500-run mark in a short time, she is now steadily moving towards the club of 1000 T20I Runs.
The dedication shown by Indu, Rubina, Sita, and Puja proves that Nepali cricket is on the rise. These records are not just numbers; they represent the growing strength of women’s sports in Nepal.
